Between the two of them, Savannah is stronger yes, though that isn't saying much considering how poor fire magic is in general.

Your friend is misinformed.Savannah Heat's damage packets increase over time = more damage

12 fire magic SH = 17 - 34 -51 - 68 - 85 = 255 @12fire

Tenai's Heat doesn't: 34 x5 = 170

But as Outerworld has said Fire magic is poor no matter how you look at it.

DoTAoE sucks. In HM PvE (scatter, and even if u snare dmg isn't worth it) as in PvP (anyone find a single braincell will be out of AoE after 1st pulse).

That's it.

IMHO, you can happily roll through NM using a fire build - my favourite used twin heats, MB and MoR as the fire skills.

As others have said, HM is different, then earth or air will probably be the best choices coupled with PvE skllls

Roll on the (semi) promised ele rework......

If we could target down AoE, use it to force mobs down a path.. To control the areas, more so.. It'd be useful. But hey, I get to wait for GW2 to do that. I can handle that, at least that point has been learned.

Both are pretty shoddy due to scatter. SH will do more if the mobs sit in it >3second.

40*5+(7*2hp/s*3s)[email protected], 42*5+(7*2hp/s*3s)[email protected]

If 1 second, 15 Fire
Savannah=20(1)=20
Searing=40*1=40

If 2 second, 15 Fire
Savannah=20(1+2)=60
Searing=40*2=80

If 3 second, 15 Fire
Savannah=20(1+2+3)=120
Searing=40*3=120

If 4 second, 15 Fire
Savannah=20(1+2+3+4)=200
Searing=40*4=160

If 5 second, 15 Fire
Savannah=20(1+2+3+4+5)=300
Searing=40*5+(7*2*3)=242

The difference isn't much for 16 Fire...
If 1 second, 16 Fire
Savannah=21(1)=21
Searing=42*1=42

If 2 second, 16 Fire
Savannah=21(1+2)=63
Searing=42*2=84

If 3 second, 16 Fire
Savannah=21(1+2+3)=126
Searing=42*3=126

If 4 second, 16 Fire
Savannah=21(1+2+3+4)=210
Searing=42*4=168

If 5 second, 16 Fire
Savannah=21(1+2+3+4+5)=315
Searing=42*5+(7*2*3)=252

edit: chart, not including 3s of burning

Searing Heat/Teinai's is better Savannah heat on the account of leaving your elite slot open so you can still bring Invoke/AP/ER and play 7/8.

If you're bringing Invoke, why bother with fire skills at all? Go full air for the win.

Just a thought. Sometimes the scatter mechanic can be useful - when enemies are kiting from DoTAoE they aren't dealing damage or able to concentrate on your team's squishies. I agree that in general, "moar BIG dommage/pew pew = win", but it's not always like that

True and very useful. Especially when you have 10+ minions for mobs to stumble over while trying to scatter.

I'd rather use Eruption or Churning Earth for simply scattering stuff instead of using Fire magic. At least mobs get blinded/knocked down.

That's not even including Chaos Storm, which isn't in a terrible attribute (although it is adjacent range).

Regardless, Savannah's Heat is still bad because of the elite status if you're just wanting to scatter stuff.

Ofcourse you're going to take Eruption and Churrning but playing the same old skill bar gets boring after a while.

Never having fallen in love with AP, I run Unsteady, Eruption and Churning in HM

Why there isn't any kind of Air Magic DoTAoE spell for Air lovers?

re: Savannah Heat vs. Searing Heat / Tenai's Heat, I think Life Infusion's chart says it all. The fact that these other spells give similar damage to Savannah while not being elite implies that the elite spell is underpowered. (also remember to add +42 damage to Searing/Tenai's because of 3s burning)
I used to like Savannah Heat a lot until I studied this chart. :-\

re: DoTAoE for Air Magic, I would suggest Snow Storm for this. It has quick recharge so there's no need for AP. I am running an Invoke Lightning / Chain Lightning / Snowstorm build right now, I like it because there is always an AoE damage spell to throw down.

Because Air magic was supposed to be a line for spiking.

Unsteady is an awesome skill. One of my personal favorites. Gotta love foes falling on their butts while trying to attack.

Savannah Heat is trivially better than Tenai's Heat if all you looked at is the damage. The real difference however comes when you consider what else you can have on the bar. Savannah Heat on its own is not a strong elite, so by using it you'll be giving up on Searing Flames (if you're using Fire) or Invoke Lightning (if you're using Elementalist skills) or Assassin's Promise (if you're powergaming) or whatever. Crucial difference.

That said, if you can replace Tenai's Heat / Searing Heat with Savannah Heat without compromising the elite - with Signet of Capture for example, or if you have no other elite to use - you improve the build. Lower energy cost, lower recharge, more damage, etc, is a very clear case of superiority.
